photo: Adrienne Critcher

Here are photos from Shreveport, LA's Prop 8 protest. Over 150 attended in the heart of the Bible Belt. Shreveport is a town of 200,000 and across the Red River is sister city Bossier City of around 50,000. There were no counter-protestors and passing cars honked their approval for us. We got good positive media coverage in the local paper and on TV. All ages were there--from toddlers to grandparents, white and black, gay and straight. I'm the 61-year old mother of a 25-year old gay son who lives in NY. His father and I helped organized this event along with the Gay-Straight Alliance at LSU-Shreveport where I'm the faculty sponsor. I'd never attended a protest rally before (I wasn't the activist type back in the 60's) but yesterday I was the featured speaker. Oh what a difference when "them" becomes "us".
